BIO

Ben Ponte is an artist and yoga teacher based in Brooklyn New York.

Ben’s visual work combines a painterly sensibility, rhythmical mark-making, with an eye for curious poetic associations. Alongside his ongoing self-portraiture practice, Ben’s recent work has drawn upon his experience as a yoga practitioner and teacher, to explore the rapid assimilation of digital devices and the affect on the mind/body relationship.

Ben Ponté is a visual artist and teacher based in Brooklyn New York.

Ben’s visual work combines a painterly sensibility and rhythmical mark-making, with curious poetic associations and an affection for bad jokes. Alongside his ongoing self-portraiture practice, Ben’s recent work has drawn upon his experience as a yoga practitioner and teacher, to explore the rapid assimilation of digital devices and the effect on the mind/body relationship.

Ben’s practice has developed in congruence with extensive study of mind/body dynamics through philosophy, psychology and yoga, with a sustained interest in archetypal psychology and the work of psychologist James Hillman. Of particular significance is the archetypal insight that images have their own intelligence and autonomy independent of intent or logic. Hillman’s maxim “let the image speak” has become an abiding mantra for Ben’s studio practice.

While developing his ideas in his studio, Ben works ‘from the underground up’ sketching daily in the subways of New York. Ben also hosts sketching experiences on the High Line, in Central Park and the Met, and is available for private and group yoga classes throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.
